There are many ways that we build community in our own lives. This network can include both family and social connections. The act of tying yourself to others creates a sense of belonging and fellowship. There are many ways to look at these connections and through that exploration patterns arise. In her work Stephanie Carpenter examines the way we create our own unique communities. She explores modularity and the use of language related to how we are connected. Each piece of type is selected and set by hand to create the final print. This act mimics the relationships we build.

This exhibit features prints and an installation that were created with vintage wood type and blocks at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum and in her personal studio. Explore how you build your own connections by putting together a blizzard book in the gallery. Pre-made book structures are available with many different page options.

Inspiring Women Portfolio Exchange

This portfolio was created in celebration of the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment. The women featured here are from many time periods, all possessing a radical spirit of creating change in the world. The portfolio was printed during the 2020 Covid19 Pandemic by 25 printers/printmakers.

In this portfolio exchange, each participant receives one each of the 25 prints. We have more sets that will be donated to Library collections or other educational institutions to further educate about these amazing women. This exchange was organized by Blackbird Letterpress.
